Today, meet 17 year old Krysten Chapman. Just embarking on her journey, Krysten knows what it is she feels called to do. In her opinion, she feels happiest and most connected when she's on camera. Eager to take part in this shoot, Krysten first came across as sweet and endearingly shy but once she got in front of the camera you could feel her honesty and tell that her eyes had a story to tell. Krysten provides a fresh perspective on the value of family and embracing exactly who you are.
What is your name and what do you do/what is your passion?
I'm Krysten Chapman and I love the arts. Ever since I was little, I loved to dance and have put in an immense amount of time training. I have traveled for dance competitions and over the years have made unbreakable bonds with teammates. Another passion of mine is acting. I love everything about it and want to spend the rest of my life as an actress. It helps me connect to myself and allows me to go a surreal place where I can be whomever I want. I am always the happiest while on the mark in front of the camera.
In what moments in your life do you feel most powerful?
I recently started heels (dance) classes which I immediately fell in love with. There is nothing in the world that makes me feel more strong and proud to be a woman. Â Whenever I put my heels on I feel so confident in my body. I truly feel so strong and allow myself to be a feminine and powerful young woman. Another time I feel powerful is with my friends and family. I know they will always be there for me and I feel most confident by their side.
What women have been most influential to you?
The most influential women in my life have been my grandmother, sister and mother for all different reasons. My grandmother often took care of me at a young age teaching me what's important in life including family, kindness and inclusiveness. She always had my best interest at heart and was constantly showing me understanding. She has helped me through so much and is truly beautiful inside and out.
My sister is one of the most determined people I know. She knows what she wants and works hard to get it. She has taught me a lot about being able to accomplish anything and the importance of hard work. My mother, who is also my best friend, is always there for me when I need a good laugh. She can make me smile no matter what and knows me better than anyone. She has taught me so much about forgiveness and loving everyone. She is my #1 supporter and is constantly pushing me to follow my dreams. These three amazing women have influenced me to be strong within myself and have allowed me to accomplish anything.
Do you have any advice for our easy community?
Some advice I have for the easy community is to always be true to yourself and do what makes you happy. No matter what that may look like, life is too short to waste time worrying about the unknown. As soon as you let yourself experience and feel as much as the world has to offer you, you will give others the permission to do the same.
And love yourself. See the beauty in you that everyone else sees. You’re not perfect. No one is. But everyone is absolutely beautiful and as soon as we start to realize that, we will all become a lot happier and more confident.
